Biscuits ‘N Gravy Bake

Hello! I’m very excited to announce that this is the very FIRST recipe that I am posting to Daily Dose of Pepper! This is far from being one of the first recipes that I’ve written or rewritten, but this is the first one that people have really showed interest in. I’m so excited to share it with you all!

I am a total breakfast lover. I love brunch. I love brinner. I have shirts that say ‘make me breakfast’ and ‘pancake queen.’ Breakfast is my jam!

It is also the most important meal of the day. This Biscuits ‘N Gravy Bake is SO good. It feels like I am cheating every single time I eat it. In fact, I’m 90% sure you will recheck the points because you won’t believe me. Believe me, I have rechecked the points a couple of times myself.

Fear not, my friends. I would never do that to you.

As a lot of my amazing weight watchers instagram followers know, I am totally new to this blogging world so please BEAR WITH ME! I will be posting new recipes weekly as much as I possibly can.

Biscuits N Gravy Bake

Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Reduced Fat Mild Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 7.5 oz Can Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits (These cans come in 4-packs), cut into small pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups Egg Beaters
  • 1 pkg McCormick Country Gravy Mix , prepared with water
  • 8 oz Jennie-O Lean Turkey Breakfast Sausage

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven to 350. Lightly spray 9x13 casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. Cook 8oz of raw ground turkey sausage. Drain fat, and set aside.
  3. Cook the package of gravy mix according to directions, and set aside.
  4. Spread your biscuit pieces evenly into the dish. Pour egg beaters on top, followed by the prepared gravy, and then the sausage. Bake for 20 minutes, then remove the oven and sprinkle cheese evenly. Bake another 10 minutes, and ENJOY!

Recipe Notes

DAILY DOSE TIP: Cook all your turkey sausage, weigh it out, and freeze the other half for the next time you make this. (The cooked sausage weighs out to 5.5 oz for each half)

  4. I just made this recipe this morning for breakfast & absolutely loved it. It’s going to be perfect for my husband & I to heat up before work this week. I was wondering though how it was you got 8sp out of each serving? When I entered the information you provided into my WW app it came out as 6sp..am I missing something? Thanks in advanced!

      I would wait and make it in the morning! I have never tested it this way- but this question has been asked multiple times, so I’m going to try it and see how it turns out this week!

  12. Would you know what size of gravy package? I found an original country gravy which is 2.64 oz or a peppered country gravy which is only 1.15 oz. :-0

    • I personally have not, but a few readers of mine have! They said it worked perfectly and to wrap individual slices in saran wrap and then tin foil. I hope that helps!

    This was delicious! I will definitely be making this again. I baked this an additional 10 minutes because I was not sure if it was done enough or if it is suppose to be a little soupy. Not sure if that is the right word I am looking for that is why I cooked a little longer.Thank you for the wonderful recipe.

  27. Hi Star, as I input all the ingredients, it is only coming out to 7sp per serving. I think I may be incorrect with the gravy in my recipe builder. In my builder, it says McCormick Country Gravy Mix, Sausage Flavor, 1 1/3Tbsp is the serving size, for 2sp. Is this correct? Otherwise the breakdown of my other ingredients are as follows:

    8oz of Jennie-o breakfast sausage 10sp
    Kraft reduced fat mild cheddar 11sp
    Great value buttermilk biscuits 17sp
    Egg beaters 2sp

    I would feel more comfortable if it were 8sp!! Just wanted to check on the total gravy points for the recipe as I may be incorrect here. Thank you!

  28. I apologize for this! It has been driving me crazy all day so I think I finally figured it out. I corrected the gravy to account for the whole package (so now in my app it says 10sp for the whole package), but it was the sausage that was incorrect! In your ingredients it says 8oz of raw sausage but in the notes section it says about 5.5oz per half when it is cooked. I had it still as 8oz when actually it wa only about 5 when I weighed it after I cooked it. So backing it down from 8oz to the actual 5 made me finally get 8sp per serving! Sorry for so many comments today!

    Hello Star! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing recipes and your gorgeous little Pepper with us. I was wondering if I could ask about the biscuits you use…I cannot seem to get my recipe down to 8 SPs as the biscuits are registering at a whopping 24 points for 7.5 oz. of Pillsbury Junior Buttermilk (flaky layers) variety. We’ve actually bought several variations and incantations (I had no idea how many until I began looking…wow) and cannot find what you mention using. I’m planning a trip to Wal-Mart this week to check out the Great Value brand to see if we cannot get the point value down. This is also my struggle with your other bakes that include biscuits…they end up being 9-11 points per serving and I end up have to use fewer biscuits which I’m guessing ultimately reduces the overall enjoyability of the dishes. Any advice or guidance you can offer would be so lovely. Thank you again!

    • Hi Charlene! I do know for sure that the flaky layer biscuit variety is higher in points. I’m guessing they use more butter in the biscuit for the “flaky layer” part. Pillsbury used to make a taller skinny can that is 7.5 oz. Unfortunately in the last year, I have not been able to find them on the shelf. Which is incredibly upsetting to me as I’m sure it has upset other readers. I can tell you that Great Value Brand, Kroger Brand, and an Aldi brand make the exact same tall skinny 7.5 oz can of buttermilk biscuits. All of these cans have 10 biscuits to a can which also makes them unique. I have seen the junior biscuit can at the store, but I never checked the points on those. I did just plug a couple things into my recipe builder though with regular biscuits. If you weigh out 7.5 oz of Pillsbury Grands! southern style biscuits or Pillsbury Grands! Buttermilk biscuits (in the WW app they are shown as 5 Smart Points per biscuit) That will make the bubble ups one point higher. So, Meatball Sub Bubble Up would be 8 Smart Points & Biscuits & Gravy Bake would be 9 Smart Points. Loaded Chicken Bubble Up 9 Smart Points. One thing you could do to reduce the smart points is use a little less cheese in these bakes. I’m a cheese FIEND so I like using a cup of cheese, but they don’t absolutely NEED that much cheese. I hope this helped you a little! I am so sorry. I also hope you can find the great value brand at the store. Let me know how it goes!

BTW – We've been buying our bread/rolls in BULK from S. Rosen's and freezing them…that's how much we love to make your amazing chicken parmesan meatball subs from your instagram posts! Aaaand my husband literally eats your marinara like a soup by the bowlful, he loves it that much. It's sooooo bleeping good!)           • I use S. Rosens French Rolls. They are 5 Smart Points each! (Which to me is a good deal for the size) There is a picture of the rolls and the packaging with the post for Chicken French Dips

  37. Made this last night for the family and WOW, we all LOVED it. It is so delicious. I’ve shared this recipe with so many friends telling them they have to make it. I did end up using Grands and the points came out to 12 with the items I used, but I’ve just read your response to the question regarding the biscuit size and will now be on the lookout for those to use next time.
    But this was scrumptious.

    • I’ve used them personally and I know lots of people use them too! I can’t remember for sure, but I think if you use the same amount as the jennie o ones it’s the same points!I hope you enjoy

  39. Hi! I made this for breakfast today and while it was delicious it did not “set” underneath but stayed kind of liquidy… could you give me some advice on what I might have done wrong? I tried following the recipe exactly but I must have messed up somewhere! Is it supposed to be a firm texture when it’s cooked? I put it back in the oven for 10 more minutes so hopefully that does the trick.

  42. I was skeptical because this isn’t something I would normally eat, but I made this for “brinner” tonight after seeing someone post it on Instagram, and it was awesome! I couldn’t find lean turkey sausage so I used chicken sausage, and left the cheese off half to keep my serving at 8 SPs. My husband, who loves all those terrible-for-you-but-delicious breakfast foods, LOVED it!
